HACKENSACK, N.J. -- Help make the City of Hackensack shine on Saturday by joining in the cleanup efforts.
"Slam Dunk the Junk" is a statewide initiative and public education campaign sponsored by the New Jersey Clean Communities Council.
Volunteers for the Hackensack event will check in for breakfast from 9-10 a.m. at the Hackensack Performing Arts Center, 102 State St. Gloves and bags will be provided.
Groups will disperse from 10 a.m.-noon and pick up trash in parks and commons areas.
Everyone will return to the arts center from noon-1 p.m. for a complimentary lunch and refreshments.
Hackensack participates in "Slam Dunk the Junk" twice a year.
The NJ Clean Communities Act was passed in 1986. Barbara McConnell, an author of the original act and the first president of the state’s Clean Communities Advisory Committee, died Oct. 21 at age 81.
