Breast Cancer Nothing To 'Shake Off' For Hackensack Gym

HACKENSACK, N.J. — Dana Calamita hasn't been touched by breast cancer, but the cause has touched her — and that's reason enough for the Hackensack gym manager to do something.

"I just want to give back to people," said Calamita of Wayne.

For the third year in a row, Calamita — a Bergenfield native — has organized Retro Fitness Hackensack's Breast Cancer Awareness Zumbathon happening Sunday.

"If there's something I can do to bring us together, then this is it."

The event will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Retro Fitness. Tickets are $15 and the event is open to nonmembers, too. (SEE ATTACHMENT BELOW FOR MORE).

Instructor Brittany Tierny of Teaneck will be dancing for her grandmother, a breast cancer survivor.

Instructor Vivian Fonesca of Fort Lee is a survivor herself, as is her mother, Patricia.

"This disease is very close to my heart," Tierny said. "I love to help others and help them get stronger.

"Whether it be through Zumba, other training classes or through supporting the breast cancer cure."
