Nearly 600 board, team and community members joined with elected officials and industry executives to hear about the latest developments for both organizations. Robert Garrett, president and CEO of HackensackUHN, was the evening's featured speaker. He offered a detailed overview the organizations' accomplishments.

"I'm proud to say we had a remarkable year in 2015 -- one that we'll look back on and say it was one of the years that absolutely defined us," Garrett said.

"I stand before you today with great pride. Hackensack University Health Network is leading the way in innovation -- fiscally sound -- with a world-class clinical team able to adjust to an ever-changing healthcare landscape."

Garrett also broke news to the audience, including HackensackUHN's new partnership with Uber and a new telehealth partnership with American Well, for ConvenientCare Now by HackensackUHN.

The meeting also marked a "passing of the gavel," with some changes in board leadership. Ulises Diaz, chairman of the HackensackUMC Foundation Board of Trustees, was succeeded by Lawrence Inserra Jr., chairman of the HackensackUMC Board of Governors. Inserra was succeeded by Richard Henning.

"The Network had its best year ever in 2015 with an operating margin of $88.5 million," Frank DeCongelio, treasurer of the HackensackUMC Board of Governors, reported. "This surpasses the previous record operating margin of $74.9 million, set only one year ago, by $13.6 million."

The boards also recognized the recent passing of Justice Marie Garibaldi, who was to become the first female chair of the HackensackUMC Board of Governors. Garrett announced the Medical Plaza Building, at 20 Prospect Ave., will be known as the Justice Marie Garibaldi Medical Plaza, in her honor.

"The boards of both the HackensackUMC Foundation and Hackensack University Health Network confirmed and approved that Justice Garibaldi's service, legacy and generosity warranted something even more visible and lasting," added Garrett.
