ChowGofer, based in Fort Lee, is a relatively new service that deals in saving time.

"We’re a service that equals in [customers'] head to convenience," ChowGofer CEO Lawrence Rapoport said.

The business was founded by three Fort Lee locals, including Rapoport, and has been around for nearly two years.

Initially a food-delivery service, they've expanded to offer all types of deliveries including liquor, flowers, laundry and more.

ChowGofer focuses on integrating with local businesses and offering services that are otherwise too cumbersome to manage. For example, some businesses don't offer delivery service specifically because they're unable to find consistent drivers.

"In essence dealing with delivery — it’s like dealing with the business is getting in the way of dealing with the business," Rapoport said.

ChowGofer offers a series of services to businesses besides delivery, such as a free website and mobile app, assistance with point-of-sale systems and credit card service fees.

The company plans to expand to a new Bergen territory every 30 days. Currently, they offer ChowGofer in Fort Lee, Cliffside Park, Ridgefield Park, Englewood, Teaneck, Hackensack, Cresskill, Bergenfield and other surrounding towns.

They're looking to integrate in Paramus, Montclair, Morristown and others by later this year.

The service charges a base rate of a $4.99 delivery fee for deliveries within three miles of the drop-off point. The fee increases with total distance and caps off at 11 miles. For example, a delivery that's seven miles away costs $8.99.

For businesses that participate with ChowGofer, they give the service a slight discount allowing the company to charge menu-costs for goods. ChowGofer will deliver from non-participating businesses but compensates the additional cost with markup prices.

Rapoport explained that slight markups were preferable to customers over service fees.

"When they see a cheeseburger for $5 instead of $4, they like that better than the service fee," Rapoport said. "I see it on the menu, I know what I’m clicking."

ChowGofer is open seven days a week, from 8 a.m. to 11 p.m.
